REQUIRES complaint to be filed in person in Baton Rouge. REQUIRES the name of the complainant not be redacted. PROVIDES for attorney fees against a person who files a false complaint.
HFL was the victim of a malicious and anonymous ethics complaint which put us at the mercy of the ethics board under the Edwards administration. We appreciate the intent of this bill but believe anonymity has a place in ethics complaints against state employees or individuals in public office. Note the option in Rep Owen's bill last year: Reveal the name if the complaint is found to be unfounded.
