GENERAL OBJECTION TO THE CREATION OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DISTRICTS The creation of additional economic development districts expands layers of government with independent funding mechanisms that often operate with limited transparency and accountability. These districts can divert tax revenue away from core public services while concentrating decision-making in unelected or lightly supervised bodies.
