Citizens for a New Louisiana Awaiting review of version 5

This proposal expands the role of school resource officers beyond trained peace officers to a broadly defined class of “veterans,” without requiring clear law enforcement certification or specialized training. The definition of “veteran” is overly broad and does not distinguish between honorable and dishonorable discharges, raising concerns about who may be placed in positions of authority within schools. Student safety requires properly trained and vetted professionals—not expanded eligibility without meaningful safeguards.
